Guide to the Brookings EITC Interactive Website
What do you do when you want to learn more about who is claiming the EITC in your community? Go to the Brookings Institution’s Earned Income Tax Credit Interactive data finder, of course! This site lets you review certain IRS data from federal income tax returns to learn about EITC claims based on location such as state, city, zip code, or congressional district.
Our guide walks you through how to use the website and the data to develop an informed plan for your tax credit outreach and free tax filing efforts. You can use the data to:
- Garner support for tax credit outreach efforts from funders, policy makers, and the public
- Highlight achievements for an EITC Awareness Day news release
- Develop new outreach initiatives and performance measures for your VITA program
- Identify under-served communities to incorporate into your outreach strategy
