The last few weeks have been heavy and difficult to navigate with the police murders of Black men and women including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbury, Breonna Taylor, Dreasjon Reed, Tony McDade, David McAtee and countless others. Our hearts ache, especially because this is not new.
The Get it Back campaign is a project of the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities, which issued a statement calling on justice and systematic reform. We believe this is important and acknowledge that statements are not enough. While we are exploring what centering Black lives and racial equity can look like for the Get It Back campaign, we want to affirm our commitment to this as we support our partners in their work. We acknowledge and affirm our partners who are navigating a range of emotions while managing multiple responsibilities in your professional and personal lives. We are committed to supporting you in your tax credit outreach activities and in your efforts to advance racial equity.
This commitment isn’t just about this moment in time. As women of color (Black and Asian), this is part of our personal missions. While we are living in challenging times, these challenges present opportunities for change. Each person gets to decide how they will show up to advance racial equity. We believe that everyone has a role to play in dismantling racism. This Black Lives Matters Resources compilation includes links for learning, donating, letter writing, and more.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – President Barack Obama
